The Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, Retail Alliance, the Peninsula Housing & Builders Association and the Virginia Peninsula Association of REALTORS® together with collaborating partners, the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, Smithfield and Williamsburg and the counties of Gloucester, Isle of Wight, James City and York, present the Virginia Peninsula “Advancing Together” on Tuesday, January 25, 2011, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Hampton Roads Convention Center.
Dr. Lawrence Yun, Chief Economist and Senior Vice President of Research of the National Association of REALTORS®, will keynote. A Panel Discussion will feature Bob Aston, TowneBank; Dana Dickens, Hampton Roads Partnership; Wendy Drucker, Drucker and Falk; Darryl Gosnell, Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance; Blount Hunter, H. Blount Hunter Retail & Real Estate Research Company; and John R. Lawson II, W. M. Jordan Company.
Yun directs research activity for the REALTORS® association and regularly provides commentary on real estate market trends for its 1.2 million REALTORS® members. Dr. Yun creates NAR’s forecasts and participates in many economic forecasting panels, including Blue Chip and the Harvard University Industrial Economist Council. He appears regularly on financial news outlets and is a frequent speaker at real estate conferences throughout the United States. USA Today recently listed him among the top 10 economic forecasters in the country.
Dr. Yun has been with the REALTORS® since 2000. Prior to that, he worked as an economic consultant to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the U.S. Department of Education. From 1995 to 1998, while a research associate at the University of Maryland, he was based in the former Soviet Union where he developed economics programs at several universities to help in the transition from communism to a market based economy. Dr. Yun received his undergraduate degree from Purdue University and earned his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland at College Park.
