WHY THE COASTAL ENERGY CLUSTER FORUM?

Hampton Roads has emerged as a leading Center for Alternative Energy research, development, and application engineering, driven primarily by the U.S. military for innovative energy solutions.

The maritime community has a requirement to reduce emissions and fuel consumption on board ships and harborcraft. Local businesses and area universities have developed specific technical and market expertise in one of the hottest technology clusters in Hampton Roads.

The region-wide comprehensive economic development strategy, Vision Hampton Roads, identified Coastal Energy as a significant cluster for attention within Innovate!HamptonRoads, a program of the Hampton Roads Partnership and its Economic Gardening Network for entrepreneurial support.
